I am very lucky to have a great network, both professional and personal. A group that has consistently straddled both the professional and the personal is a group call Free Hugs Vietnam. They are a “scrappy” group of students that are trying to build a culture of community service while building ways for students to develop professionally. I first met them through my friend, Huyen Chip, who later invited me to judge a business plan competition for them.
After a controversial judging, I realized that:
- I liked these kids.
- I had something to offer them.
And so I offered to put together a Presentation Skills course for them. It took them several months to find a venue and sponsor, but on July 25th, I was able to wake up (without a hangover) on a Sunday morning and deliver a four hour workshop on Presentation Skills. It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot about how to reach out to the youth of Vietnam.
